Subliminal Sessions presents Strictly Erick Morillo :: Album Launch Party

Erick Morillo exclusive 7 hrs set. March 14th. MoS.

"I am proud of my exclusive London show, I love that I take the room from the very beginning right through to the bitter end."

Erick Morillo would not mind himself being described as an ambitious jet setting entrepreneur, an international DJ and producer who loves what he does. He lives the rock and roll lifestyle, surrounded by fast girls and hot cars. Recently he DJ'ed to 65,000 people at Creamfields in Argentina, where the crowd literally sung back to him. He is without doubt one of the biggest and best known DJs in the world.

He is the walking, talking, DJing ambassador for his beloved label Subliminal, a label and premier club brand that he has built up from scratch to its now legendary status. Subliminal Sessions has long standing, glamorous residencies in New York and Ibiza and is well known the world over.

Morillo now returns to the London Dance scene with a new purpose: to promote his association with one of the most respected house music labels in the world -Strictly Rhythm, the label that kick started his career and was also the catalyst to him launching Subliminal. This is his first compilation on the imprint since 1995, and is a reflection of the sound that you will hear when you see him perform live.

His parties in 2008 were a resounding success, selling out instantly and boasting record attendances, with fans flocking to his main room, peak time, tougher-edged style.

If for whatever reason you may have to retreat from the marathon session that will occur in the box, then you can enjoy the now rare appearance of Jazzy M, one of the Ministry’s original and long standing residents.

Burial Steps Out of the Shadows

Feted dubstep producer reveals secret identity

Mysterious, Mercury-nominated beat-smith Burial has at last unveiled his identity. On his MySpace blog, the man behind the two genre-defining albums 'Burial' and 'Untrue' has revealed himself to be Will Bevan, a South Londoner.

On the blog, he explains that up until now, he's wanted to let the music speak for itself, but now feels duty bound to remove the mask.

"For a while there's been some talk about who I am, but it's not a big deal," he said. "I wanted to be unknown because I just want it to be all about the tunes. Over the last year the unknown thing become an issue so I'm not into it any more.
I'm a low-key person and I just want to make some tunes, nothing else. My name's Will Bevan, I'm from South London, I'm keeping my head down and just going to finish my next album, there's going to be a 12" maybe in the next few weeks too with four tunes," Bevan confessed.

Burial's much mooted compilation for the 'DJ Kicks' series remains under wraps for now.

Video: September Releases Cry For You - You'll Never See Me Again

The young, upstart, electro label Hard2Beat has been unstoppable. The beginning of the year saw their debut release by Basshunter top the UK singles chart for 5 weeks. They followed up with H‘two’O featuring Platnum’s hit ‘What’s It Gonna Be’ which surged up the charts to reach #2 and unquestionably confirm hard2beat as the UK’s hottest new record label.

Their 3rd release, September’s ‘Cry For You (You’ll Never See Me Again)’, is shaping up to be another huge record. Although this single was released back in 2007, topping the US Billboard dance air-play chart for an impressive 3 weeks, this April we will see a new remix pack and this visually stunning (thanks to September's golden locks) music video. The remix package comes courtesy of Spencer & Hill (Moby, Chris Lake, Sugababes, Booty Luv) lacing the track with electro house while Jackal inject retro sensibilities. Other mixes come from superstar DJ Dave Ramone and Darren Styles.

Abount September

September's real name is Petra Marklund - and she was born determined... by 12 she was already in studios recording, and at 17 she was singing in a rock band.. when she graduated from her Swedish High school, at a time when most teenagers worry about what to wear to their interviews for a job at McDonalds, Petra had already nailed a record deal. A big one. Calling herself "September" , the then 18 year old starting having high quality dance hits in her home country, tracks were written and produced by hit making trio Jonas von der Burg, Niclas von der Burg and Anoo Bhagavan. While danceable and catchy, the songs always have its base in Petra's dark surprisingly sad voice that lingers - making them stand out from the rest on the radio.

The Running Man Cometh :: Utah Saints Return with Something Good

A 1992 single gets tech'd up and remixed for 2008.

Just when you thought Utah Saints went the way of the dodo, they turn out a smashing remix of their 1992 powerhouse single "Something Good". Like the original, "Something Good '08 (Van She Remix)" features that mind-drilling Kate Bush sample from "Cloudbusting". The music video features a hilarious video spoofing the origination of The Running Man dance made popular by MC Hammer. Those Welsh were way ahead of the game, it appears.

The single is gaining in popularity receiving heavy rotation on Radio 1 from Jo Whiley, Annie Mac, Chris Moyles, Scott Mills, and more. Zane Lowe and Pete Tong made it a 'Hottest Record In The World' and 'Essential New Tune' respectively. The single pack includes remixes from High Contrast, Ian Carey, Prok & Fitch, eSquire, and Bart B More.

About Utah Saints
Having sold over 2 million records to date, recorded with the likes of REM’s Michael Stipe, and performed with U2 and others on mega-stadium tours, Utah Saints remain one of the most trail-blazing outfits within electronic music. Following a self-imposed exile, Tim Garbutt and Jez Willis buried the Utah Saints name in the early Noughties (following unreleased albums and contract oblivion), vowing to return under that guise when the time was right. In the meantime they’ve produced and remixed under their Beatvandals moniker, DJed all over the world, and run the highly successful club night, Sugarbeat, in both England and Scotland.

Now ready to take the world by storm once more, Utah Saints are back in 2008, recording new material for a studio album and playing gigs across the UK, with a mix compilation also planned before the year is out.

This Could Be Dangerous

Danger Mouse returns with new projects

Feted producer to the stars Danger Mouse is back with a bang in 2008. The imaginative studio auteur, aka Brian Burton, who first picked up props for his widescreen, mind-boggling fusion of Jay Z and The Beatles (‘The Grey Album’) and a sampladelic rap opus with Jemini (‘Ghetto Pop Life’) has three new projects which will see the light of day this year.

The first record with the Danger Mouse signature to be unveiled will be Martina Topley-Bird’s long awaited second solo set, ‘The Blue God’. Burton has produced and co-written the record, his stamp of innovation and sonic trickery forming the backdrop to Topley-Bird’s exquisite voice.

The hazardous rodent has also lent his considerable abilities to new Wall of Sound signings The Shortwave Set, whose own second record ‘Replica Sun Machine’ has been entirely produced by Burton. Employing a 24 piece orchestra conducted by Beach Boys collaborator Van Dyke Parks, it’s destined to be epic indeed.

Last but not least, Danger Mouse has resurrected lysergic freak funk and acid hop nutbags Gnarls Barkley, his hook-up with soul machine Cee-Lo Green. After 2006’s mega hit ‘Crazy’, expectations are high, but the duo — holed up in a top secret studio in Atlanta putting the finishing touches to the new album — promise not to disappoint.

What's It Gonna Be: Racy Video Overshadows New Club Anthem

Producers H 'two' O have teamed up with vocalists Platnum to create the club anthem 'What's It Gonna Be'.

H 'two' O, DJ's Solution & Oz aka Selim and Simon, have enlisted the help of Platnum, a young trio made up of hip hop / RnB / garage vocalists Aron, Mina and Michelle, for the early 2008 Bassline House monster 'What's It Gonna Be'. The squeaky clean, almost bubble-gum, house track, mostly resembling Speed Garage, is helping launch the new Bassline House genre across the UK.

Although the track will be tough to swallow by House purists and underground loyalists, it has a hook tough to ignore and will undoubtedly do much to merge electronic music with mainstream acceptance. A super-sexy music video reminiscent of Britney Spears' earlier faux-innocence certainly won't hurt. In fact, students at the college where the music video was filmed were outraged over the racy video. Commentators state difficulties concentrating on studies after viewing the superb strip sequence in the video.

Radio 1 and Kiss have jumped on the support bandwagon already. A remix pack, featuring Thomas Gold, Vandalism and Jason Herd, will be availabe in mid-February. Although nothing totally revolutionary, the Thomas Gold and Vandalism remixes are the clear stand-outs here.

Gilles spans two decades on this three CD release.
Defected will release their latest installment of the IN THE HOUSE series, "Gilles Peterson...In the House", on January 28, 2008. This triple CD selection is based on over two decades of deep DJ experiences. Not what you'd consider a club album, as some of the ITH predecessors have been.

Gilles submits his take on the contemporary house scene on CD1. It's a soulful, upfront, and collects together a wicked selection he's picked up on his worldwide travels. There's Mario Vidis, Phil Asher (Phlash & friends) and Simbad feat. Abdul Shylion. Says Gilles of CD1, "Tone 7’s ‘Dubdub 2’ is kind of tribal meets Ame while Blaze’s ‘Wishing You Were Here’ brings back good memories of
ing to Louie Vega in New York City and of those afternoon sessions at Body & Soul. Nice, thumping. Techy tunes. I like to go there."

CD2 features more Peterson gems. His disco side shows up with tracks like Earth, Wind & Fire 'Let Your Feelings Show' and A Taste Of Honey 'Boogie Oogie Oogie'. CD 3 is a bonus CD containing a selection of exclusive unmixed tracks specially commissioned by Gilles by some of his closest contemporaries. Artists in this selection include tracks by DJ Sneak, Karizma, Switch and Carl Craig.
